When our Dad wrote a book about our family, he dedicated a chapter to our school - Union Christian. That should give an idea of the outsize impact that our school, its teachers and our late Headmaster P V Varughese had on our lives. My three brothers and I thrived in an environment that was disciplined yet caring, challenging yet comforting, a school and yet a home.

One of the things we most benefited from was that UCMS didn’t just focus on academics but believed that the children would grow by fully discovering and developing all their talents and interests. So there was a consistent emphasis on public speaking, debating, singing, sports ( even for sports challenged individuals like myself)  - these not only gave all of us the opportunity to grow our skills but also fostered the values of collaboration, respect and integrity among others. We continue to wish and pray for UCMS to always be that different school that sees itself as more than teaching students but forming human beings.

School is a seminal part of one’s life and definitely for me. Its been 25 years since I passed out of school. Not for a moment since, have I regretted spending 14 years in one school. The quality of education has given me a strong foundation to my professional career that has opened many doors. The quality of friendships has endured and even today we catch up in different corners of the world and pick up conversations which we left in school.

My family looks back at UC with the fondest memories and I wish you the same.

I spent 14 years at Union Christian and I can confidently say my UC days were the ultimate life boot camp. I learnt to thrive, survive, and most importantly gained friends who still tolerate me. Those wild 14 years taught me to laugh, cry, and navigate life's ups and downs. Plus, I picked up some handy skills: being somewhat professional, semi-punctual, and moderately competent.

Union Christian is more than just a school – it's family, community, and a treasure trove of memories (some suitable for polite conversation). Reflecting on those transformative years, I'm reminded that Union Christian's greatest gift wasn't just knowledge, but a foundation for life – one I'm honored to share with my son as well.

Union Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary School holds a special place in my heart as the institution that shaped me both academically and personally. I did my entire schooling from KG to twelfth standard at Union Christian. Known for its discipline and familial character the school provided a nurturing environment that felt like a second home. The dedicated teachers not only instilled knowledge but also values that continue to guide me in my life. Every student was individually appreciated and cared for.

The emphasis on holistic development, coupled with a culture of respect and responsibility, made my time there truly enriching. I am forever grateful for the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the foundation that my school laid for my future. Even to this day returning back to my school gives me immense pleasure every single time.

I had the privilege of studying at Union Christian, Chennai, from Upper Kindergarten all the way through 12th Standard, and those years have truly shaped who I am today. The school was not just a place of learning—it was a community that nurtured courage, humility, and respect for all.

From dedicated teachers who inspired curiosity, to an environment that encouraged us to think fearlessly and act with kindness, every experience helped build a strong foundation for life beyond the classroom. The values instilled in me during my time there continue to guide my decisions, relationships, and ambitions.

I will always remain grateful to my school for giving me both knowledge and character—lessons that extend far beyond textbooks and exams.

Union Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chetpet, has been a cornerstone in shaping who I am today. The years I spent at UC were not just about academics—they were about discovering my voice, building confidence, and understanding the true meaning of community. The supportive and nurturing environment inspired me to become more outgoing and outspoken—qualities that proved invaluable during my college years and continue to guide me even today.

What made my experience truly special were the teachers who guided and believed in me. I am deeply grateful to the Principal during those years, whose leadership and encouragement fostered a positive atmosphere where all students could thrive. Likewise, every teacher was a guiding light who made a lasting difference in our lives. I cannot forget the times spent in our library, the books we read there, and the planning for countless inter-school cultural events. These opportunities allowed us to explore our talents and grow beyond the classroom.

Union Christian School instilled in me values and lessons that continue to shape my life, along with friendships that have stood the test of time. The education and extracurricular activities laid a strong foundation for my future, but more importantly, UC gave me a vibrant and joyful school life filled with cherished memories. There are days when I wish I could go back and relive those moments again. I look back on my time here with immense gratitude and pride, and I wish the same meaningful journey for every student who passes through its halls.
