Theatre is a powerful art form, it teaches lessons about life, society and emotion and more importantly yourself.
~ Anastasia Roberts, author
In our quest to develop world citizens who are have the opportunity to explore their talents and abilities, we have also introduced a theatre program into our school curriculum. Tying up with Crea-Shakthi, we have included one period a week of theatre in the class timetable.
The time is spent helping the students get an introduction to the craft of theatre; learn basic stage presence along studying with various forms of theatre. This program even helps improve the writing skills of the students, and encourages them to have performance-based writing activities. They are taught to develop a storyline, and to present pieces that increase awareness on various social topics. These activities kindle their writing spark, and ignite their imagination. The program also helps the students in voice training, and improving clarity in speaking. Theatre programs are also proven to improve teamwork, peer relations, self-awareness and confidence levels.
Public speaking & debate programs are included to help the students in overall personality development and to improve their thinking ability.
We are all essentially the same, yet each of us is exceptionally unique.
Keeping this in mind, we have created a suite of club activities that help the child get a solid introduction into various fields. Apart from improving their life skills, and giving them a basic knowledge on various subjects, this activity also opens up a myriad of vocational options!
Unbeknownst to us, we may have a gifted story teller, a contemporary artist par excellence, a chess wiz or a celebrity motivational speaker in our own school! To make sure that these kids are given an opportunity to find their calling, the club activities, run by established professionals in their respective fields, give children an amazing opportunity for learning and development!

Music has a power of forming the character, and should therefore be introduced
into the education of the young.
~ Aristotle
Music is also known to be therapeutic at many levels. It helps our children to beat stress and to relax even in the midst of their schoolwork. Apart from relaxation, it has been proved beyond doubt that music helps in to develop areas of the brain related to language and reasoning, memory skills and increased coordination – such as the hand eye coordination, and motor skills.
Union Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary School has always given due importance to musical training in the education of our children. Regular music periods are included in the timetables of all our grades. Trained music professionals impart musical education right from the kindergarten level.
Our music classes give children a sense of achievement, help to identify and shape their musical abilities, builds character, and helps in building imagination and intellectual curiosity. They are encouraged to follow their musical pursuits with dedication and hard work.
Our annual inter house group-singing competition for our students of grades 6-12 is one of the year’s highlights. We also conduct solo singing competitions for the children during our Splash inter-house culturals.
SPLASH is our much-awaited annual Inter-house competition where the students of our four houses –Diamond, Emerald, Garnet and Sapphire – participate in various creative events.
To encourage a healthy sense of competition, team spirit and to help the kids showcase their talents, we conduct contests that help the kids perform, and bring glory and honor to their respective houses, and home classes.
Competitions are conducted and the winners are honored as they work together to win the coveted Splash Trophy for their house.

Our student and staff editors work hard each year putting together a lovely school magazine that serves to document the year that has passed. The magazine also creates a platform for our budding talented writers, poets and artists. Our school magazine is named “Sunbeam”, and is published at the end of each academic year.
We also publish a newsletter – UC Campus Notes twice in a year. This newsletter is a comprehensive coverage of the activities that the school undertakes. It is also a platform for the students to exhibit their writing skills.
