LABORATORIES

My laboratory is like a church because it is where I figure out what I believe. ~ Hope Jahren, award-winning geochemist and geobiologist. Laboratory teaching provides first hand experience by helping the students visualize what they have learnt theoretically. It also creates opportunities for students and teachers to collaborate in engineering various exercises and experiments. Our school labs are well equipped, and provide a learning environment where our students can experiment and explore science under safe and supervised conditions. The labs help the kids get hands-on practice and experience, aiding them to understand the underlying principles behind different scientific concepts.

They thereby increase their observational skills, and develop their reasoning and analytical skills. Our laboratories are equipped with several specimens, slides and the necessary equipment as per the curriculum that we follow. Fire-safety measures have been taken in all labs, and first-aid is easily, and readily available for all our budding scientists.

Computer Lab

Union Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary school has partnered with Chrysalis, a leading organization in educational reform. Their innovative curriculum is a pronounced shift from the current ‘Education for Job Readiness’ to ‘Education for Human Potential’. From Kindergarten to V we focus on Language development, cognitive development, aesthetic development, appreciation of arts and experiential learning. Chrysalis is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. The methodology emphasizes the development of self-expression, true self-reliance, and agility in interpersonal relationships and encourages children to explore their world, and to understand and respect the life forms, systems and forces of which it consists.

As part of experiential learning, we at UC believe that “Learning is experience. Everything else is just information.”

LIBRARY

Renowned Swiss philosopher and poet, Henri Frederic Amiel once said, Everything you need for better future and success has already been written. And guess what? All you have to do is go to the library. In our aim to enrich the minds of our students, we have taken great effort to create a space where children can read, research and explore the world that books open up to them.

The school follows an open access system for students, where our students can browse through the available resources for their projects and assignments, or simply spend time there for the sheer pleasure of reading. Our reference counter consists of encyclopedias and the other reference materials on various subjects, which can be freely used within the library premises, while the circulation counter offers a wide selection of books, which are issued out for the students to take home and read.

Each grade has a library period on their timetable once a week, which emphasizes the importance of reading in children. During this time, the children read books of their choice during their school day. Our library currently houses fiction and non-fiction books for children of all ages, reference volumes, and age-appropriate magazines and newspapers in order to expand the student’s imagination and language.
