At UCMHSS, we provide a well-rounded education, encompassing academics, sports, arts, and extracurricular activities. By focusing on holistic development, we help cultivate individuals who are not only academically proficient but also emotionally stable, socially adept, and spiritually aware. The school places importance on inculcating moral and spiritual values.
We constantly revamp, reinvent and evaluate the classroom and teaching strategy to create the most appropriate education that every child deserves. The study programme for all learning levels is unique because it is a cross-fertilization of the finest teaching methodologies.
Union Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary school has partnered with Chrysalis, a leading organization in educational reform. Their innovative curriculum is a pronounced shift from the current ‘Education for Job Readiness’ to ‘Education for Human Potential’. From Kindergarten to V we focus on Language development, cognitive development, aesthetic development, appreciation of arts and experiential learning. Chrysalis is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. The methodology emphasizes the development of self-expression, true self-reliance, and agility in interpersonal relationships and encourages children to explore their world, and to understand and respect the life forms, systems and forces of which it consists.
As part of experiential learning, we at UC believe that “Learning is experience. Everything else is just information.”
The STEAM lab at UCM is an interactive space which empowers children to explore, design, and prototype, catering to diverse interests in art, math, technology, and beyond. It empowers teachers to employ project-based learning that crosses each of the five disciplines and fosters an inclusive learning environment in which all students are able to engage and contribute.
Students go through various modules such as cardboard mechanics, 3D design, aero modelling, robotics, and AI, which allow them to explore both their creative and technical abilities.
Flipped classroom teaching is an area the school has moved towards in recent years, where students are motivated to study the teaching material beforehand and use the classroom for reinforcement. Seminars, presentations, and debates are conducted by students. Theatre is given importance as a non academic subject as it helps develop creativity and self-expression and supports academics through interdisciplinary connection.
We at UC believe that no child should be left behind. In an effort to improve outcomes for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, retired teachers and volunteers have helped provide extra help for these students after school hours.
The Leadership Development Programme and the ‘buddy system’ are ways our school has fostered peer learning and developed leadership qualities in our students. Older students from a higher grade have put in time and effort to help students in lower grades. The ‘buddy system’ has promoted productive social interaction within the classroom, where students in the same class are encouraged to help each other during lunch breaks.
Our school has adopted a student-centred approach, reflecting current best practices in education. We prioritize experiential learning through field trips, hands-on experiments, research projects, and presentations, fostering interdisciplinary and blended learning. This approach marks a significant shift in our teaching methodology, emphasizing creative and critical thinking within a comprehensive framework. By carefully designing learning outcomes for outdoor activities and field trips, we ensure they complement classroom studies, bringing textbook concepts to life and enabling students to apply them in real-world contexts.
The school is justifiably proud of a spacious, well-stocked library state-of-the-art, well-equipped laboratories which provide excellent facilities in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and our STEAM lab. The school makes extensive use of audio-visual ICT-enabled teaching aids. Each class has wi-fi connectivity along with an interactive Sense Board.
